At Gislen Software, we remain committed to take responsibility for our environmental impact. For several years now, we have gone beyond the principle of neutrality by offsetting three times our calculated CO₂ emissions. This year is no exception. For the accounting year 2024/25, we estimated that our emissions were 203.7 tonnes of CO₂, and in line with our policy, we offset three times that amount – 620 tonnes of CO₂ in total.
We produced 177,110 KWh via our own solar panels which consequently reduced our electricity requirement from the grid.
How we calculated our footprint
Our calculations cover both direct and indirect emissions from our operations. This includes the electricity used at our office, travel expenses, company vehicles, food provided, staff trips, and the impact of equipment and other purchases. The breakdown for this year was as follows:
| Category | Tonnes CO2 |
| Electricity consumption (from the grid): | 34.6 |
| Flights: | 8.9 |
| Company vehicle emissions: | 15.3 |
| Office lunches: | 21.6 |
| Employee trip to Pollachi: | 2.0 |
| Capital equipment and other purchases: | 121.3 |
| Total: | 203.7 |
Projects we supported
To offset three times this footprint, we contributed to three different renewable energy projects certified through the UN’s Climate Neutral Now initiative.
Together, these projects not only reduce emissions but also enhance access to clean energy in India, contributing to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
Looking ahead
We are proud to continue our journey as a carbon-neutral company, but we know that offsetting is only part of the solution. Our long-term focus remains on reducing our own footprint where possible – through energy efficiency, sustainable procurement, and conscious choices in travel and operations. During the present accounting year, we are also calculating CO₂ from Scope 3, where employee commuting is likely to be one of the larger categories.
By consistently offsetting three times what we emit, we aim not just to neutralise our own impact but also to give something extra back. It is our way of recognising that every company, large or small, has a role to play in addressing climate change.
