November 2009

Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative

A group from the company visited a home for children with AIDS. We gave them gifts and played and sang some songs with them. We will try to visit this home once a month and also donate some money to their work. Gislen Software has a CRS policy which focuses on ethical business practices, equality, environment and charity.

15 years of successful outsourcing

On 15th September 1994 Gislen Software Private Limited was registered in Chennai after a years of preparation. The company had at the start 2 Indian employees. Today it is 15 years since the company was founded and we have today more than 40 staff, where 9 have worked 10 years or more in the company. We would like to take the opportunity to say thanks to our customers and employees for these 15 years and we are looking forward to new challenges. Permanent team for development of product for market research

Gislen Software has signed a contract with a leading Swedish producer of market research software.

Thanks to Gislen Software's earlier involvement within the market research business segment with among others TNS-SIFO and Action Dialog Partner, the new customer selected us.

We will initially provide a team of 5 .NET developers but the plan is to expand to 10 people before the end of the year. Theteam will perform maintenance and new development in close relationship with the Swedish team. the developers will work together using a light-weight SCRUM process and use SKYPE and Video conferences to maintain the relationship.

Product for health care

Gislen Software has signed an agreement with a company based in Lund to develop a software product within the health care segment. The project will continue throughout 2009 and will be executed by a team from Gislen Software together with two people from the customer. The task is to replace an old system from the 90th We will use SCRUM and the Swedish and Indian  team members will meet once a month for a joint walk through of what has been developed as well as new requirement for the next period. The development will be done in Code Gear Delphi 2009..

November, 2008

Development of customized Container Depot system

Gislen Software has signed an agreement with Göteborgs Containertjänst (GCT) for development of a complete containersystem for  GCT's two depots in Göteborg.

The system includes complete management of gate in/out, estimation, invoicing and EDI communication with customers.

The system will be possible to use both from normal PC's and from portable wireless units in the vehicles.

In addition GCT's customers will be able to log in via web and get reports in real time.

Swedish Subsidary registered under the name of Gislen Software AB

We have now registered a fully own subsidiary. The Swedish company will slowly take over responsibility for the sale in Sweden. Since Gislen Software is partially Swedish owned, it is nice to close the circle and finally have a Swedish company.

On 2/2 the Swedish IT delegation arranged by Invest in Sweden Agency visited our office together with reresentatives from 10 local Indian IT companies. Mikael Gislén shared some of the company's experiences of business culture  in both Sweden and India and there was time for networking between the delegates and the local companies. The IT delegation was only one out of 4 delegations visiting Chennai at the same time.

Fireworks when Historical Tall Ship arrived in Chennai

On 30/1 the Swedish 18th century replica tall ship "Götheborg" anchored outside Chenna's Marina Beach. In the evening Gislen Software and a few other local companies with Swedish ownership sponsored fireworks. On 31/1 when the ship arrived in Chennai Port, the children from Little Lambs School sponsored by the company were involved in the welcome cermony and waved with Swedish flags as the ship was nearing the quay. The visit is partially to promote trade between the two countries, and the Swedish deputy Prime Minister Maud Olofsson and 4 business delegations also visited Chennai at the same time. Someone stated that there has probably never been so many Swedish people at the same spot in India.

Gislen Software Participated in ICT Week 2006 in Stockholm

The company participated, together with our partner Fifth Generation Technologies, in a leading Swedish IT Exhibition. We are trying to get more business from Sweden. We do have a strong connection to Sweden and most of our project experience is from the Swedish and Norwegian markets. Currently the Swedish interest to outsource to India is increasing and Gislen Software having more than 12 years of experience in working with Software development for Swedish companies has a unique opportunity.

Gislen Software announces Planner Suite version 1.5.

Gislen Software announce a new version of Planner Suite, its wholistic project management tool (formerly known as PromegaSuite). The new version is a substantial overhaul with new features for overview, document management and budgeting. The new release will be available to our customers in November 2006.

Substantial growth

Gislen Software has during the last year grown and now has 45 people working for customers in Norway, Sweden, UK and the US. Some of these are coming from our partners. We now work in close collaboration with Camelot, EWAK, Songbird Technologies and Clasticon. Together with our partners we are currently about 250 experienced engineers in the network.

The management presents a good result for the last accounting year. The management is also confident that the current accounting year will be even better.

Gislen Software in September 2004, signed a large contract for outsourcing of a large project for Norwegian and Swedish end users. Q-Free ASA World Leader in Road Toll Applications and a Scandinavian Leader in IT Systems for Public Transportation &

Market improvements

We have noticed a major increase in requests for projects. The company has also got a number of new contracts. We expect a much improved result for year 2004. Among the new contracts to be mentioned are:

 

  • Process designer tool for a large European marketing company
  • Fund raiser relationship management system for a well known international NGO
  • Project for a Singapore company where we are developing a high level product for the financial industry
  • Web based Resource/Time reporting product for a Swedish company

 

Alliance with International Ethical fund will support future growth

We have recently entered into a deal with an international Ethical fund. This fund will add one person to our board, and provide working capital as well as expertise and advice. Among the plans we have as outcome of this agreement is a sales office in Europe during next year. We believe this alliance is a key strategic step for us!

PromegaSuite version 1.1 launched

Promega Suite version 1.1 was released in September. The new version includes export/import to MS Project and export to MS Excel, it has a much improved document module, and the planner is improved in various ways and among other things it now supports baselines. Camelot Software

Together with DBA, AIS, Fifth Technology and Vispark we have founded Camelot Software. Camelot Software is a consortium of about 240 programmers in the Chennai region. The company is staffed by the founder's staff and has the following objectives: To take on larger projects than any of the owner companies can handle, the projects will be handled by joint efforts of the company, but following the Camelot common process. To ensure a clear roadmap for process and quality excellence. The member companies meet regularly to implement a common process. Camelot Software have probably jointly the largest number of PSP trained software engineers outside the US (PSP = Personal Software Process, which is a service mark of Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, US). Together we have a wide area of knowledge, lots of experience and marketing channels. All the member companies have a strong focus on quality and we plan to get Camelot CMM certified by 2005.

PromegaSuite Launched

We managed to release PromegaSuite ahead of schedule in late January. PromegaSuite is a holistic Project Management system which includes a process module where you can enter your own process description to make the system support CMM, ISO 9001, RUP or other processes. The package targets not only IT companies, but all kinds of knowledge work where time and planning matters. Tha package supports document handling and is integrated with MS Office. PromegaSuite includes modules for planning, reporting, analysing, document handling and ensuring process adherence. PromegaSuite is released both in a desktop and a web edition, both versions works over Internet or Intranets and can support all from small to large sized organisations. The web site for Planner Suite (new name)can be found here. A complete trial version is available for download.

Launch of PromegaSuite in February

We have renamed Omega Suite into PromegaSuite, and will release the commercial version soon after January 30. After more than 8 man years development and about 6 months of beta testing and further development Gislen Software plans to release an holistic project management package with support for processes like CMM, ISO 9001, RUP and other. The package targets not only IT companies, but all kinds of knowledge work where time and planning matters. The package also supports document handling and is integrated with MS Office. PromegaSuite includes modules for planning, reporting, analysing, document handling and ensuring process adherence. Gislen Software today June 7, 2002, released its complete project management Software - Omega Suite(TM). We have about 25 beta testers lined up and the Beta Test program will continue for 3 months. Omega Suite includes modules for planning, reporting, analysing, document handling and ensuring process adherence. Omega Suite is released both in a desktop and a web edition, both versions works over Internet or Intranets and can support all from small to large sized organisations. The release and support is handled by Gislen Software Pvt. Ltd. (India). We are looking for beta testers and if you are interested to find a holistic solution for project management, we would like you to register at the beta site.

We have recently started a strategic alliance with Corporater AS, A leading Norwegian Company specialising in products for Balance Scorecards. New COO, Fiona Crossling

Fiona Crossling, who has earlier helped us to develop our Software Development Process, has joined us. She will be working part time until October when she will join us full time. She is a Canadian from Quebeq and has a background as a process consultant from Bell Canada.She will focus on developing Internal Systems, training of Project Leaders and help the company to move forward. Mikael Gislén will focus more on marketing and strategy.

New time reporting system

Our staff has developed a Socket based Middleware Time Reporting System which works over the Internet. Staff working at our clients offices can now do their time reporting from any computer connected to the Internet. The system is using MS Project 2000 (with ODBC connection) for planning but all time reporting is done in our module. Only project leaders needs to have MS Project installed. The time reporting system is one module in a suite of productivity tools we have developed to support the development process. Other modules are Defect Tracker and Attendance system. We might release these tools in the market at a later time.

Little Lambs Educational Trust

Gislen Software has recently founded an educational trust for underprivileged children. The trust will initially focus on education in small classes for small children. Currently the trust can only receive contributions from Indian donors. If you want to contribute, please click here.

Business Support Processes Defined

Together with Rory Gowers the Management team has defined a full set of Business Support Processes on a strategic level. The work will procede with defining the same on a tactical level and certain of these will be supported by software modules. This will enhance the company's focus on processes and the support processes will support the software development process which was defined earlier and is currently being implemented.

The Facilitator

The first batch of staff went through the training program facilitated by Rory Gowers. The program includes methods for group communication and for customerizing the organisation and to help in the requirement gathering process.

We had a staff conference at Mahabalipuram where we discussed the future focus, the objectives for the next 12 month and challenges ahead. We got good help from Rory Gowers from Australia who led the sessions.

New Software Development Process

We started our first pilot project using the new development process. We have also started to use the new process in a phased manner on some new projects and will implement it for most old projects before the end of August 2000. It is a radical change in our way of developing software and will change our quality as well as performance. Our customers will see the results of the new process mostly in the way communication is handled and in the document templates and checklists which will ensure consistence at all levels.

5 years anniversary

On December 12th we celebrated that Gislen Software have successfully finished 5 years of Software consulting business. We had a party under the Chennai sky with current and former employees, the Swedish Honorable Consul, the MEPZ Development commissioner, families, friends etc. Sponsors where Dynamic Marketing Enterprises, Milesworth Travels and Tours and Fresh and Honest Coffee.

Business Process Redesign

Our Millennium (re)design team together with a consultant from Canada - Ms. Fiona. Crossling - has started to map our current process and will redesign our process in order to make our organisation better more profitable and quality oriented. The implementation of the new process will start from January 2000.

Richard Buchanan appointed Business Development Manager

Richard Buchanan, from New Zealand has joined us. He has wide experience in IT departments of organisations like CSFB, Citibank and Union Bank of Switzerland. Richard will be working to extend the client base as well as developing the existing ones. He will also work with improvements in the organisation in India.

Gislen Software certified by Microsoft

We are now a Microsoft Certified Solutions Provider which among other things means that we will have access to all nationalised versions of different MS operating systems and other products. This will help us in different ways one way would be to test what we do for our customers in similar environments as they use it. The MCSP certificate will also give us access to Beta versions of all MS products.

Living Questions to acquire a minority share

Chennai and Stockholm 16.2.1999. Living Questions and Gislen Software today announced that Living Questions plans to acquire a minority share in Gislen Software. Living Questions being one of the largest clients of Gislen Software, wants to assure the continuity of the production for them and there is a first refusal agreement between Living Questions and the majority owner of Gislen Software. Gislen Software sees this as an opportunity to get more credibility especially in the Swedish market.

New official company name

Chennai 31.12.1998 The board of directors have decided to officially change the name of the company from Gislen & Co. Software Export Private Limited to Gislen Software Private Limited. Locally we have often been called Gislen Software even before and we also feel that an abbreviation is not very personal.

Executive Director

From April 1st we welcome Mr. M. C. Abraham as our Executive Director. Mr. Abraham who has a Management degree from XLRI, Jamshedpur, has a wide experience in various business fields and has till recently been the Executive Director of Integrated Stock Brooking Services Pvt. Ltd. in Chennai. He writes about himself "My wide experience, particularly in setting up complete business organisations backed by a keen interest in new developments and challenges makes me confident of success even in totally new environments and setting up new businesses from inception. My strength lies in people management and in an informal, hands-on approach".

Expanding our office

In early January we moved in our new office extension. We are now 24 people working in our office  With the new expansion we will be able to expand up till 50 people.

The new office is organised into 6 blocks of 4-5 work places each, a new conference room, two manager cabins and a reception. It would give enough space for us to grow.
